May 2016 – September 2016
Client: City of Burnside
Seed undertook a benchmark tree canopy assessment across the City of Burnside to determine current land cover across suburbs and investigate trends over time.
A total of 10,780 points were classified into one of ten land cover categories broadly described as: tree canopy cover, impervious surfaces, plantable space, and non-plantable space.
The land cover assessments were based on 2015 satellite imagery.
Three suburbs were selected to investigate land cover change between 2010 and 2015.
The i-Tree Canopy assessment provides a benchmark for the City on which to measure and monitor future land cover changes, including on-going planting programs.
It also provides insights into which suburbs present the most tree planting opportunities.
