March 2013 – February 2014
Client: Eyre Peninsula Integrated Climate Change Agreement Committee
With the Adaptation Plan, Seed Consulting Services – together with the CSIRO and urban and regional planners URPS – set out to develop an effective climate change adaptation strategy for the Eyre Peninsula.
An adaptation pathways approach was used, one of the first of its kind in Australia, and proved critical in developing the process of engaging leaders in the community to think about how to respond to climate change threats.
The strategy brought together 38 key regional leaders and influencers from business (through Regional Development Australia) and local government, as well as Eyre Peninsula national resources management representatives.
Through the stakeholder engagement process implemented by Seed, these key leaders gained significant capacity to understand the adaptation strategy, and are now communicating the priority actions outlined in the Adaptation Plan within their own sectors.
The Adaptation Plan formed the basis of a $250k adaptation grant scheme for the Eyre Peninsula released in the 2014-15 financial year.
